Ten Thousand Ventures
I designed and typset the debut poetry collection from Nevin Allen to enhance a unique voice with a powerful key visual. Inspired by the different seasons of the author’s life, inverted mountain and tree as well as the hourglasses flowing in reverse immediately place the reader in a world where they’ll need to feel their way through.
Physical and digital promotional collateral was also created for print and social media. A limited-edition extra poem postcard and 10KV sticker were included with the first print run of the collection.

Much of the work collected in 10KV (Ten Thousand Ventures) was inspired by different season's of the author's life, so the visual language had have a certain grandeur and flow to prepare the reader for the experience inside. The image associated with the work had to be bold and abstract enough in its imagery to prompt curiosity before even reaching the pages inside.
The inverted mountain and tree (or is it something exploding out?) silhouetted against a bright sun (or is that the moon? is it rising or setting?) were chosen deliberately to invite questions—questions for which the answer is up to you. Similarly the reverse flowing hourglass immediately places the reader in a world where they know everything is not straightforward. The chosen typeface also evokes a degree of both olden mysticism and geandeur.
The physical and digital promotional collateral were also created using these elements to build up the collection's own visual identity. A limited-edition extra poem postcard and 10KV sticker were included with the first print run of the collection.
